Quick answer
GB Ferries operates as a private ferry service connecting Anguilla with neighboring islands, primarily serving routes between Blowing Point Ferry Terminal in Anguilla and destinations like St. Barts and St. Martin. The company has established a reputation for providing convenient transportation options, with particular attention to customer convenience through services such as airport pickups and direct ferry transfers. With a Google rating of 4.2 from 13 reviews, GB Ferries has generally positive feedback, though experiences vary significantly between passengers. The ferry service appears to specialize in smaller, more intimate boat experiences rather than large commercial ferries, as evidenced by reviews mentioning only a few passengers per trip and personalized service from the crew. The ferry terminal is located in Blowing Point Village, which serves as the primary maritime gateway to Anguilla, making GB Ferries a crucial link for both tourists and locals traveling between islands. Reviews consistently highlight the scenic nature of the journeys, with captains and crew members often providing commentary about the local surroundings during transit. The company offers complimentary refreshments on board, which several reviewers have noted as a pleasant addition to their travel experience. Despite these positive aspects, GB Ferries has also faced criticism regarding logistical issues, particularly concerning luggage handling and customer service responses when problems arise. GUEST EXPERIENCE: Guest experiences with GB Ferries appear to be polarized, with many travelers praising the convenience and personal service while others report significant issues with luggage handling and customer responsiveness. Positive reviews frequently mention the ease of booking and transportation, particularly the airport pickup service that streamlines the journey from arrival to boarding. Passengers consistently appreciate the smaller boat sizes, which create a more intimate and less crowded experience compared to larger ferry services. The crew's friendliness and professionalism receive particular mention, with multiple reviewers noting the captains' willingness to share information about the local geography and points of interest during the crossing. Conversely, negative experiences center on logistical failures, most notably an incident where a passenger's luggage was left behind at the departure dock without adequate resolution or apology. In this case, the affected travelers were forced to wait 1.5 hours for the next ferry while carrying no personal belongings, and the staff response was described as dismissive rather than accommodating. Despite these isolated incidents, many travelers still recommend GB Ferries for its scenic routes, complimentary refreshments, and overall convenience when traveling between islands. The company seems to perform best when operations run smoothly, but appears to lack robust systems for addressing service failures when they occur.
In their own words
“On our trip from St. Maarten to Anguilla, GB Ferries left our suitcase on the dock. The woman at the desk in Anguilla offered no apology and only indicated that it would arrive on the next ferry. When the next ferry arrived 1.5 hours later (we had nothing to do but sit and wait for it), the tender on the ferry could see us waiting on the other side of immigration for his mistake. We were told to knock on the window at immigration, which we did, but were told that our suitcase was not in the building yet, despite us watching it get brought in. After another 20 minutes, we finally asked again if the GB Ferries agent could do anything to help (fix their mistake), and she reluctantly went back into immigration and immediately came out with our luggage. Presumably, she could have retrieved our bag, which she knew we were waiting for, up to 20 minutes sooner. People make mistakes all the time. How they respond to them is the important part. GB Ferries offered no apology and did nothing to expedite the return of our bag after they left it, literally, in another country. We'll try one of their competitors next time.”
“Very convenient private ferry service to Anguilla. They picked us up at the airport and brought us right to the ferry. There was only one other couple on our boat so plenty of room. The captain and mate were very friendly and explained the local scenery on the trip. We received free drinks with our trip. A very easy and pleasant experience.”
“We took GB Ferries today from Sint Marteen to Anguilla. We thoroughly enjoy the trip both ways. Great friendly service with refreshments included.”
“Easy way to travel to St. Barts or St. Martin. Bring your passport and cash money.”
