Quick answer
Tokyo Bay is a restaurant situated at Rendezvous Bay Anguilla, 2640, Anguilla, which has garnered a mixed reception from patrons with an overall Google rating of 4.4 from 37 reviews. The establishment appears to offer a diverse menu featuring sushi rolls, fish dishes, shrimp ceviche, and crème brûlée, alongside specialty margaritas with a distinctive wasabi salt rim. Despite its scenic location, the restaurant has faced significant criticism regarding service consistency, with multiple guests reporting excessive wait times for seating, drinks, and food, particularly during special occasions like Valentine's Day and when attending concerts. The restaurant operates with an 18% service charge, which has become a point of contention among some diners who felt the service did not justify this additional charge. The dining experience at Tokyo Bay seems to vary dramatically between visits, with some patrons describing their meals as "shocking" and "disappointing," while others have had "such a great meal" and enjoyed "fine food and dining." The restaurant's atmosphere appears to be a highlight for many, with guests frequently praising the welcoming and friendly staff, though this hasn't always translated to efficient service. The kitchen seems to struggle with consistency, particularly in executing dishes properly, as evidenced by a reported incident of charred crème brûlée. Despite these issues, the restaurant maintains a decent overall rating, suggesting that positive experiences may be more common than negative ones, though the negative reviews are particularly emphatic in their criticism. GUEST EXPERIENCE: Guest experiences at Tokyo Bay reveal a stark divide between satisfaction and disappointment, with service quality emerging as the most polarizing aspect. Many patrons have highlighted the welcoming and friendly nature of the staff, creating a pleasant atmosphere that complements the scenic location. However, this hospitality often fails to translate into efficient service, with numerous complaints about excessive wait times for seating, particularly when reservations are not honored, and significant delays in receiving both drinks and food. The inconsistency in service appears to be a recurring theme, with some guests reporting that their meals arrived sporadically rather than together, and tables being cleared while some members of their party were still eating. The food itself receives mixed reviews, with some dishes being highly praised while others fall short of expectations. The shrimp ceviche stands out as a particular favorite among guests, and the sushi rolls and fish dishes generally receive positive feedback when executed properly. The kitchen's attention to detail seems inconsistent, as evidenced by the reported over-torched crème brûlée, while the specialty margaritas with wasabi salt rims have been described as a "MUST" try. Despite the culinary highlights, many diners feel that the overall experience doesn't justify the 18% service charge, especially when considering the significant delays and lack of communication regarding delays. For those seeking a fine dining experience, the restaurant's reputation appears to be inconsistent with the actual service delivery, particularly during busy periods or special events.
In their own words
“Booked as a table for Valentine’s Day and had the most shocking experience! For a restaurant that is supposed to be of a high reputation, myself and the rest of my party were completely disappointed with our night. We waited 90 minutes for food with no communication from our waiting staff regarding the delay and received no apologies when we finally complained. One dish was brought out 45 minutes before the rest, with no explanation, when we had requested all dishes to be served together. Although the waiting staff were not solely responsible, the lack of sincerity in apologising to us or explaining the situation made the whole situation fall even further under our expectations and is not what you expect when booking a restaurant like this. The servers also started clearing the table before members of the party had finished, when the food had eventually arrived, which made for an uncomfortable situation. Food was mediocre at best which is a shame as the venue was nice and we all had high hopes.”
“Had a shockingly poor experience at Tokyo Bay this evening. As others have mentioned, food was average and service was slow. We made the mistake of ordering the crème brûlée, which arrived charred on the top. The chef must have held the torch for 15 seconds too long, well beyond what is expected for this dish. I requested the staff take it back (and expected a new one to be made) and instead the chef walked out and aggressively insisted that the dish was perfect. A quote: “you know brûlée literally means burned in French, right? It is supposed to taste exactly like that”. Shocked to see that a restaurant at a 5* hotel would employ such a hotheaded chef. I will not be returning.”
“Service was the worst I have ever experienced. The food was ok. We had an 8p reservation that included a concert that began at 9:30. We did not get seated until 8:30 and finally got our drinks at 9:30 and food, that came out sporadically at 10p. We finished eating at 11:30 and totally missed the concert. There was no acknowledgment about the lateness or service. I will not go back.”
“Group of 5 - waited over 90 minutes for our food! All meals didn’t come out together! And why are you Clearing the table when people in the group are still eating! And to add insult to injury they still add 18% service charge!! Food was good when it finally arrived! Utter ridiculous for a so called 5 star hotel! Staff have no idea what is happening- many guests complaining!”
